Letter #3: About Book Proposals
Speaking of book proposals, I recently started working on my very first one. And let me tell you, this may be the most challenging part of writing a nonfiction book. Being a complete newbie, I realize there is plenty that I have yet to learn. And frankly, while I am thrilled to take on this next step, a part of me is feeling fearful and impatient.
The deeper I dive into the writing and publishing world, the more I realize what a long and messy road this will be. And interestingly, the lesser my chances seem of getting published traditionally, the more passionately I continue to try. You best believe that I am not giving up! I will continue to write for as long as I live. Short stories, novels, poetry. But this book proposal for my memoir? It’s a story about immigration which people need to hear–for some to understand, for others to know they are not alone. This I will continue to improve and send out–even if it takes me until I am ninety. Okay, let’s hope it does not take that long.
How is your book proposal coming along? What is your take on all of this?
